According to a recent report on the celebration, Red Rock Resorts surprised nearly 10,000 employees with company stock worth more than $70 million to mark its 50th anniversary.
The award was tied directly to loyalty, with eligible employees receiving $1,000 in Red Rock Resorts Class A stock for every single year they had worked for the company. That simple formula meant the payout varied enormously depending on tenure, but even newer employees walked away with a meaningful stake in the business they helped run every day.
Station Casinos, the operating brand behind Red Rock Resorts, delivered the surprise last Wednesday to a ballroom full of full and part time workers. For a company celebrating half a century in business, the gesture doubled as both a birthday celebration and a reminder that its long serving staff were never far from leadership’s mind.
A Surprise Fit for a 50th Birthday
Frank Fertitta III, chairman and CEO of Red Rock Resorts, and Vice Chairman Lorenzo Fertitta delivered the announcement together in front of the assembled workforce. Lorenzo Fertitta told employees they should walk out of the room differently than they walked in, framing the moment as a shift from simply working at Station Casinos to genuinely owning a piece of it.
“Every guest you take care of, every shift you show up for, this is now your company too,” Fertitta told the crowd, according to the report. Eligible employees were able to begin officially claiming their shares starting the following Monday, turning what began as a surprise announcement into a real, immediate financial benefit.
The size of individual payouts told its own story about loyalty at the company. Ida Johnson, who joined the company back in 1977, received $49,000 in stock. Six other longtime employees who started working at the original Bingo Palace location in the 1970s and remain with the company today each received more than $45,000 worth of equity.
A Company Built on Family and Loyalty
The roots of this milestone trace back to 1959, when founder Frank Fertitta Jr. relocated from Galveston, Texas, to Las Vegas. In 1976, he opened a modest 5,000 square foot property simply called “The Casino,” featuring 100 slot machines, six table games, and a staff of just 90 employees. The property was renamed Bingo Palace a year later, then became Palace Station in 1984.
Frank Fertitta III shared that his father built the entire business around one core belief: that team members and guest relationships mattered more than anything else in the casino industry. That philosophy, passed down through decades of company leadership, appears to have directly shaped the decision to celebrate this milestone anniversary by investing directly in the people who kept the business running.
Today, the company has grown well beyond that original single property, now owning and operating 23 locations across the Las Vegas Valley. Properties like Red Rock Casino Resort Spa, Green Valley Ranch Resort Spa Casino, and Durango Casino & Resort now sit alongside stakes in several smaller venues, representing a dramatic expansion from that first 90 employee casino floor.

“Our father founded this company on a few simple principles: serve the local community, deliver great value, and most importantly, take care of our team members,” Fertitta III said, connecting this stock award directly back to the company’s founding values. For a business with five decades of history, that consistency in mission stands out.
