A 280-piece collection just hit Walmart shelves, and the vast majority of it costs less than $25. Scenario, the retailer’s newest private label, launched in stores and online on August 27, built entirely around a modern bohemian aesthetic. For anyone bracing for the usual price tag on a fall refresh, this collection flips that expectation completely.
Walmart didn’t guess at this aesthetic. The company said customer research found nearly one in five women name “boho” as a top style preference, according to a statement from Walmart. None of Walmart’s existing private brands were seen as covering that look, which left an opening the retailer decided to fill.
“We are on a journey to democratize fashion because we believe everyone should have access to beautiful clothes, regardless of their budget,” said Denise Incandela, executive vice president of fashion for Walmart U.S. She added that Scenario brings a feminine point of view to the retailer at what she called an extraordinary value.
According to retail trade coverage, a ribbed cotton T-shirt starts at $7.98, while a woven leather hobo bag tops out the collection at $39.96. In between sit a $14.98 pleat-cuff sweatshirt, a $27.98 smocked midi dress, and a $29.98 denim chore jacket, giving shoppers real range without leaving the budget tier.
The new line will take over some shelf space previously held by Time and Tru, Walmart’s long-running staple brand, according to reporting picked up by Fox Business. Time and Tru isn’t disappearing, though. Walmart says it will continue with a smaller assortment focused on its most popular pieces.
Scenario is designed to appeal to women near age 35 who want trendier details than Walmart’s other private labels have traditionally offered. Incandela described the approach as an “and” strategy rather than a replacement, meaning Walmart is adding a new customer base rather than abandoning its existing one.
Standouts from the collection include bootcut jeans, a denim midi skirt, and a button-down denim dress, alongside a run of cozy knitwear like fuzzy-textured sweater vests and cardigans in autumn-ready colors. Even basic layering pieces start around six dollars, making it easy to build a full outfit without breaking $50.
Beyond apparel, Scenario includes bucket bags, crossbody handbags, ballet flats with memory foam footbeds, and retro-style lace-up sneakers. Several of these accessory pieces were already selling out shortly after launch, signaling the bohemian aesthetic resonated with shoppers faster than Walmart may have anticipated.
Style outlets have drawn comparisons between Scenario’s prints and silhouettes and those of Anthropologie, a brand known for considerably higher price points. That comparison is doing a lot of the marketing work for Walmart, positioning Scenario as a budget-friendly way to get a look shoppers already associate with upscale fashion.
The launch continues a broader push that has seen Walmart introduce or relaunch 15 fashion private brands over the past five years, with private labels now accounting for more than half of Walmart Fashion’s total sales. Scenario is available now in stores and online, giving budget shoppers one more entry point into the retailer’s expanding style lineup.
