This Makeup Artist Turned Her Acne Into Art, Proving That Breakouts Don’t Make Her Any Less Beautiful

Those who struggle with acne and other skin issues know that managing breakouts can sometimes feel like herding cats. Just as you get one pimple or breakout under control, another one pops up. It’s annoying, it’s painful, and it can really grind one’s gears. However, one makeup artist decided to turn her frustration with her acne into something creative and beautiful. Rather than hiding her blemishes behind layers of foundation, she highlighted them and encouraged others to look at their skin issues differently.

Rocio Cervantes posted her incredible makeup look on Instagram on September 17th. In just three days, she’s garnered over 40,000 likes from those who salute her for not letting her acne win.

 

“[This] was a concept I had for awhile now,” Cervantes wrote in her caption. “It came out of frustration as you all know (since I speak about it so much lol) my acne hinders my ability to do anything.”

She continued to explain that before applying this look, she was trying to picture what she would look like without acne. “Afterwards I was so ashamed of myself for thinking that because I am beautiful,” she continued. “So I hope anyone dealing with anything…knows that they will get through it.”

To craft this look, Cervantes placed star stickers over her breakouts before she applied foundation. She then removed the stickers and “bam,” as she said — her acne became the literal star of the show.

 

Cervantes, who calls herself a “Professional Olympic Blender” on her Instagram account, has been open with her followers about her struggles with acne. On August 1st, she posted a candid selfie showing a spot treatment and wrote,

“I’ve been dealing with a lot of breakouts that cause me to not be able to put on makeup for days or even weeks…it’s very stressful, depressing and sad because I am so passionate about makeup and putting out content for y’all!”

She then shared that she wanted to take her followers with her on her acne treatment journey to not only help others cope with their skin issues, but to also normalize acne on social media and within society.

Cervantes has been getting so much love on Instagram and Twitter since posting her rainbow eye look. She’s started a support train that has room for everyone to hop on.
