What happens when the founder of one of beauty’s buzziest brands reaches outside her own lineup for the finishing touch on her everyday lip? Hailey Bieber recently shared her current go-to combination on TikTok, pairing her signature glossy, lined aesthetic with the darker “espresso” hair she debuted days earlier. But this time, her routine included a beauty-brand crossover that might surprise anyone expecting an entirely Rhode lineup.

Bieber began the routine close to home, reaching for Rhode’s Peptide Lip Shape. The product fits naturally into the glossy nude lip looks she frequently wears, but it was only the beginning of the combination. From there, she brought in products from M.ph by Mary Phillips, the makeup line founded by the artist who has worked with Bieber since she was still known as Hailey Baldwin.

The finished look centered on soft nude tones rather than a dramatic contrast with her newly darkened hair. Bieber used the Overliner Lip Liner Pencil in Skinny Dip, described as a cool nude, before filling in her lips with M.ph’s new Top Coat Hydrating Lip Gloss in Wild Thing, a caramel nude.

The Surprise Comes From Her Makeup Artist’s Brand

Mary Phillips is hardly an unfamiliar name in Bieber’s beauty world. The makeup artist has worked with her for years and is known for techniques designed to define features while maintaining a natural-looking finish. Phillips also frequently works with Kendall Jenner, and her underpainting technique has become one of the recognizable elements associated with her approach to makeup.

Bieber’s latest routine is not even the first time she has publicly reached for M.ph by Mary Phillips. Earlier in the year, she used the brand’s foundation in one of her TikTok get-ready-with-me videos. Her latest lip combination continues that relationship, this time bringing Phillips’ products directly into a category closely associated with Bieber’s own beauty aesthetic.

The Overliner pencil is a pigmented, long-wearing formula intended for anyone who wants to slightly overline the lips for a fuller appearance. Bieber paired Skinny Dip with the newly launched gloss rather than simply stopping at liner. The Top Coat Hydrating Lip Gloss offers sheer, buildable color and was designed to provide hydration along with shine and the appearance of fuller-looking lips.

Her Nude Lip Is Really a Mix of Different Tones

The individual shades help explain why the finished combination has more dimension than a single nude product might provide. Skinny Dip brings in a cooler nude tone, while Wild Thing adds a warmer caramel nude over the lips. Together with the Rhode product Bieber applies first, the routine builds the look in layers rather than relying on one shade to do everything.

The M.ph gloss itself is designed to be flexible. It comes in neutral and red shades that can be worn alone or layered over the brand’s Lip Ciggy Sheer Lipstick Balm. That versatility fits naturally with the kind of glossy, lined lip Bieber regularly wears, while giving her latest version a slightly different combination of tones and textures.

Bieber is also not the only person responding positively to the new gloss. One shopper praised its lighter texture, staying power and range of colors, while other reviewers highlighted the shade Can’t Stop. The positive early feedback adds another layer to Bieber’s choice: the product may be newly launched, but it was already drawing favorable reactions from shoppers when she featured it in her routine.

A Beauty Founder Does Not Have to Stay in One Makeup Bag

There is something notable about seeing a beauty founder publicly mix her own products with another label. Bieber could easily build an entire routine around Rhode, yet her latest lip combination shows a more familiar way of approaching makeup: choosing individual products from different brands because they work together for the look she wants.

In this case, the crossover also makes sense because of Bieber’s longstanding relationship with Phillips. The makeup artist has helped shape Bieber’s beauty looks for years, and Bieber had already used M.ph products publicly before this particular lip routine. Rather than feeling like an entirely unexpected departure, the combination brings together Bieber’s own beauty line with products created by one of the artists behind her recognizable makeup aesthetic.

The result is a useful reminder that even someone with her own beauty brand does not necessarily treat makeup as an all-or-nothing proposition. Bieber starts with Rhode, then layers in a cool nude liner and caramel gloss from M.ph to complete the look. The surprise is not that she abandoned her own brand, but that her latest signature-looking nude lip turned out to be a collaboration of products hiding in plain sight.
