Retailers across the U.S. are facing one of the most challenging years in recent memory. Rising operating costs, declining foot traffic, and shifting consumer habits have forced many companies to downsize—or shut down entirely. From fabric and party supplies to pharmacies and department stores, familiar names are disappearing. For shoppers, this also means widespread liquidation sales are already underway.

Big Lots filed for bankruptcy in July and immediately began shutting down stores. While a full list hasn’t been released, confirmed closures include stores in Florida, Massachusetts, Georgia, Illinois, California, and dozens across San Francisco. Walgreens says the closures are part of a broader effort to stabilize long-term operations.
